I Went To A Psychedelic Conference: Here's How It Changed The Way I Think!
An essay on my highlights from "Learning Man" 😂
When Devon from MAPS invited me to the Psychedelic Conference way back in February, I had NO idea what I was going to walk into. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be 12,000 incredible people from all walks of life, exploring the scientific, therapeutic, and healing properties of psychedelic medicines. While there was some hubbub about the idea of calling this a “psychedelic revolution” (ahem, Bob Jesse), I truly believe it is.
I loved being in a place where a mycologist (Paul Stamets!) gets a raucous standing ovation; where a presentation on Internal Family Systems by the founder is so popular that they have to turn people away; where you can drink directly from the wisdom of people who have been experimenting with consciousness since the 1960s.
The breadth and width of attendees and speakers was truly epic, and I can’t wait to go back!
Here are some of my highlights…
Dr Andrew Weil, who started experimenting with psychedelics in the early 1960s, in a talk about how they had expanded his life. One of my favorite moments was hearing about his experience of witnessing consciousness visually, how it runs through everything like bright, multicolored streams. He also talked about being in canyons and seeing projections of indigenous people along the canyon walls, and how if everything has consciousness, it also has memory. I get goosebumps even typing that out!
